I am moving cross country in December and have a cat. I am driving but don't want my cat to have to endure 3-days of travel and unlike a dog you cant let the cat out of the car to use the potty. How much does it cost to fly my cat alone to my new desination? Do I just call the airlines and ask? I am not sure what to do or where to start. Anyone who has done this, can you tell me how much it costs?

Thanks! :)

the cost depends on the airline " cargo", weight of cat, kennel size, and distance travelled... call the airline cargo you would like to use or go to the website for more info (click cargo), have all info stated above handy, and book a flight... make sure day picked is not too hot or cold, as for the cat will travel with cargo(suitcases, other pets, etc)... make sure cat's shots are up to date, and very last minute get a travel health certificate from vet ( they expire after7-10days)... get a good kennel for the cat (the cat has to be able to stand up on all 4s and turn around while in it), airline approved, and put "this way up", "live animal" stickers on it... also put your name , address, phone number, any additional info, and cats name on the kennel.... stop feeding the cat 8 hours before flight, and make sure she goes potty before flight.... fill water/food dish that came with the kennel with water the night before and freeze it... it would be a good idea to get the cat a collar and leash, and put it in a clear ziploc bag and tape it to the kennel in case cargo atendants need to let it out for some exercise or whatnot( flights are unpredictable)... you will need someone or yourself to drop off the cat at the airline cargo a few hours before the flight and fill out any info, and pay for service if not done so already... someone will have to be at the destination to pick up the cat when it arrives... good luck... I have done this for both a cat and dog... never had a problem... NWA is pretty good, and so is AIR CANADA...

You have to have her shots up to date and a health certificate not older than 10 days from a vet. You need to buy a cage if you don't already have one, large enough so the cat can stand up. most airlines will charge $100 one way

My daughter took her dog over to Spain and then back again. The dog had a pet passport... and she took it out there by car and the returned by Plane,, and she had to go into quarantine

WHY wouldn't you simply call an airline, or check out one of the airline websites?? Here's another idea...check with your vet!
