1) You can order euros from the bank ahead of time and take that over instead of U.S. - saves time and you get a better exchange rate. Credit cards and ATM cards work as well

2) Photocopy of your passport (I keep this in a separate pocket in my suitcase just in case something happens)

3) Hard copies of your e-ticket, reservations, itineraries, important phone numbers, important addresses (to send post cards) and any directions you may need there

4) Guide book and area map

5) Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, etc.)

6)Sunglasses

7) Lip balm w/sunscreen (for the plane - dry air)

8) Cameras, batteries, charger, data cable and camcorder and accessories if you have one

9)Umbrella

10) Stationary and a pen (need a pen at least to fill out customs paperwork on the plane)

11) Snacks (I pack granola bars and PB&J to cut down on food expense while there)

12) Blindfold and ear plugs (helps you sleep on the plane and when you get there if you have jetlag)

13) Laundry soap (pack less and do a little laundry while out there?)

14) If you are visiting someone out there, a gift for your family/host

15) Travel alarm clock

16) Tissues/kleenex

17) Health insurance ID card (just in case) and emergency contact information for someone back home in your wallet (again, just in case)

18) Pajamas

19) Charge cords for all your gadgets and extra batteries

20) Fleece socks to wear on the plane

21) Make reservations for attractions - if you are visiting the Vatican or Galleria Borghese in Rome, you will need reservations. Make them before you leave or take the numbers so you can call them when you get to Rome. If you are going during high season, best to plan way in advance.

Before You Leave Home “To Do” List:

-Clean house (you will feel great to get back home to a clean place)

-Call credit card companies and tell them you are going over so they don't freak when they see foriegn charges

-Make arrangements for pet care

-Check all doors and windows are locked

-Reduce heat, hot water heater and A/C settings

-Secure all outdoor items

-Water plants (arrance for someone to water them)

-Unplug appliances: TVs, VCRs/DVD players, coffee maker, toaster, computer

-Set light timers

-Stop newspaper delivery

-Stop mail delivery

- Set alarm

Most importantly - stop stressing - whatever you forget they will have over there! Have a great time. :-)

*snacks for the flight (airplane food is awful!)

*Something with emergency contacts in case of accident

*You have the plug adapters, but many US appliances can not run on the 220 current they have in Europe. Double check that your laptop and phone will charge correctly on that current. The adapters just make it so the plug will fit, but don't change the current. You could end up blowing up your things.

*Take extras of the meds, etc, in case something happens to your flight, or you miss your flight, etc.

*Make copies of all documents and keep in a safe place.

*Watch out for pick pockets in Italy. There was a recent report about how bad it is there. Make sure all documents and $$ are in a safe place.

*Keep an extra copy of your itinerary, if you are on a schedule.

*Maps, if you are traveling on your own.

*Extra batteries for the translator....although I'm not sure if you can travel with batteries.

*You might want to also get an actual book/dictionary in case the translator isn't working.

*I assume you have clothes for a variety of weather, good walking shoes, coat, etc.

*Leave itinerary and contact #'s with someone at home, in case someone needs to contact you for emergency at home.

Can't think of anything else right now.

I can't really add to the "what's missing" list for you. I just love the "thingy" items you have listed. I'm glad I'm not the only one to use that term a lot.

Have a safe trip, take lots of pictures and make a lot of memories. Above all..... have fun, you lucky cuss. Wish I was going to Europe, too.

1. Camera

2. Card reader adapter if your memory card needs one, to transfer your photos into your laptop.

3. Leave photocopies of your passport, ticket and other documentation at home, just in case

4. List of your laptop info, just in case you lose it. Be sure your Lojack is active.

5. Anti-allergy med, just in case

6. Immodium or something, for diarhhea

7. Chargers for your gadgets

8. Small locks for your backpack and laptop bag (There are many pickpocketers in Italy, almost got me when i was there).Be sure to lock them when walking around.

9. Prescription for your meds, if they are not OTC - just in case they ask for it at the airport.

10. Pen

11. Small notebook or pad

12. Small Tissue

13. Why do you have to bring a blanket? they have it on the plane.

Have a great trip! Be wary of your belongings, your pockets. They can be very fast over there.
